EU food safety standards are not part of trade negotiations, spokesperson says
BRUSSELS, April 15 (Reuters) - The European Union will not negotiate on food safety standards as it tries to find an agreement with the United States to relieve trade tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, an EU spokesperson said on Tuesday.
Trade talks between the EU and the U.S. would continue on a technical level, spokesperson Olof Gill told reporters in Brussels. But an "additional level of engagement" from the U.S. administration would be needed for a deal, he added.
