Sompo's European expansion continues with Belgian, Dutch approvals

March 27 - (The Insurer) - Japanese insurer Sompo has secured regulatory approval to begin writing primary P&C policies in Belgium and the Netherlands.

In a statement on Thursday, Sompo said it had been granted licenses by the regulatory authorities in both countries to begin underwriting locally, marking the next phase of the Japanese insurer's expansion in Continental Europe.

Sompo's expansion into Belgium and the Netherlands increases its presence in the region to seven countries.

Led by Ralph Brand, Sompo’s Continental European business is already present in Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Switzerland, where it received regulatory approval to operate from the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority in April 2023.
