US Treasury brings in two members from Musk's DOGE, Bloomberg News reports

- The U.S. Treasury has brought in two people connected to the newly-created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday.

Citing people familiar with the situation, Bloomberg named the two as Cloud Software Group CEO Tom Krause and Marko Elez, an engineer who has worked for SpaceX and social media platform X.

They will have offices in the department along with agency email addresses and clearance to access some secure but unclassified information, the report said, adding that since joining they have aimed to meet with staff involved in hands-on management of the government payments system and database.

Last week, Reuters reported that DOGE, chaired by billionaire Elon Musk, gained access to the most sensitive payment systems at Treasury and locked some employees out of their agency's computers.

Before U.S. President Donald Trump took office, a member of the transition team began setting up meetings between Krause, Elez and Treasury staff. They were later formally brought on at the Treasury but their exact roles are unclear to much of the department's staff, the Bloomberg report said.

Representatives from the Treasury, Space X, Cloud Software Group and DOGE did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.
