NEW YORK, July 15 (Reuters) - The dollar gained against the Japanese yen and was little changed against the euro on Tuesday in choppy trading after data showed U.S. consumer price inflation was close to economists' expectations in June.
Core consumer prices rose by 0.2% in the month, for an annual gain of 2.9%, below economists' projections for a 0.3% and 3.0% gain, respectively.
Headline inflation was as expected for the month, rising by 0.3%, but posted an annual increase of 2.7% for the year, compared to expectations for a 2.6% gain.
The euro EUR= was last up 0.03% on the day at $1.1667, paring an earlier knee jerk rally on the data. Against the Japanese yen JPY=, the dollar strengthened 0.26% to 148.09.
