WASHINGTON, April 25 (Reuters) - British finance minister Rachel Reeves said on Friday that she had met U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to discuss a trade deal between the two countries.
"The UK-U.S. relationship has delivered prosperity for businesses and working people on both sides of the Atlantic," Reeves said in a brief statement on social media.
"Today I met with @SecScottBessent to discuss the UK-U.S. economic prosperity deal and our goal of reaching an agreement that is in both our national interests," she added.
Reeves met Bessent on the sidelines of a gathering of the world's top finance officials at the International Monetary Fund which has been dominated by U.S. President Donald Trump's sweeping import tariffs.
Britain, like many other countries, is hoping to ease the impact of Trump's tariffs by striking a deal with his administration.
