Japan, US finance chiefs did not discuss FX targets, framework, Kato says
WASHINGTON, April 24 (Reuters) - Japanese Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato said on Thursday there was no discussion on setting currency targets or a framework on exchange rates in his meeting with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
"With regards to the ongoing bilateral trade negotiations, we agreed to continue close and constructive dialogue on exchange rates," Kato told a news conference after his meeting earlier on Thursday between Bessent.
A senior Japanese finance ministry official told reporters no specific date was set for the next meeting between Kato and Bessent.
