MOSCOW, April 24 (Reuters) - The Russian rouble was little changed against the U.S. dollar and China's yuan on Thursday ahead of a new round of talks between Russia and the United States expected to take place on Friday.
At 1006 GMT, the rouble was flat at 83.00 against the U.S. dollar, according to LSEG data based on over-the-counter exchange rate quotes. The Russian currency has risen by about 38% against the dollar so far this year.
U.S. President Donald Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, will visit Moscow this week for a new round of talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the war in Ukraine, the White House said earlier this week.
"We will inform you if and when new contacts between the president and Mr Witkoff take place," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday.
Maxim Timoshenko from Russian Standard Bank said the currency was likely to be volatile as news on the peace process emerges.
"As information about the progress of peace negotiations arrives, the rouble will experience increased volatility," he said.
Against the Chinese yuan, which is used by Russia's central bank for its foreign exchange interventions and is the most-traded foreign currency in Russia, the rouble was also flat at 11.39 on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
