On the U.S. economic front, S&P Global's flash Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) readings for the month are scheduled for release. Manufacturing PMI is expected to inch up to 49.7 in January from 49.4 last month. Meanwhile, services PMI reading likely ticked down to 56.5 this month from 56.8 in December. Separately, a University of Michigan survey is likely to show that consumer sentiment remained unchanged from last month at 73.2. The National Association of Realtors is set to report existing home sales data, which might have increased to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.19 million units in December from 4.15 million units in the previous month.

American Express is expected to post higher profit when the credit card lender reports its fourth-quarter earnings.

Verizon Communications, in its fourth-quarter earnings release, is set to report a rise in wireless subscriber additions, thanks to demand for its discounted customizable offerings.

NextEra Energy is slated to post a rise in profits from the year-ago period. Investors will watch for any comments on its shuttered nuclear plant, the outlook for energy demand and consumption, and any updates to its investment plans in 2025.

Hospital operator HCA Healthcare is expected to report fourth-quarter results before markets open. Investors are expected to look out for its 2025 profit outlook.

For Latin America's largest economy Brazil, the IPCA-15 consumer price index is expected to fall 0.03% in the month to mid-January, following a 0.34% rise last month. The annual inflation likely eased to 4.36% in the same period from 4.71% in the previous month. Separately, Mexico's economic activity is expected to have expanded at a rate of 0.3% in November, after contracting 0.7% in October. Annually, the economy probably grew 0.6% in November.
