CHICAGO, Feb 5 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for corn and soybeans were steady to lower at processors in the U.S. Midwest on Thursday, a spot check of locations showed, as farmers sold their crops following gains in soybean and corn futures.
Chicago Board of Trade soybean futures continued their ascent for a third session following Wednesday comments by U.S. President Donald Trump about China buying more U.S. soybeans, traders said.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said China is "lifting the Soybean count to 20 Million Tons for the current season (They have committed to 25 Million Tons for next season!"
Corn futures also followed the upward trajectory of soybeans.
Farmers rewarded the rally by selling, which caused pressure in the cash markets, analysts said.
CBOT March soybeans SH26 settled 20 cents higher at $11.12-1/4 a bushel. CBOT March corn CH26 closed 5-1/2 cents higher at $5.35 per bushel.
Basis values are quoted against CBOT futures in cents/bu:
