CHICAGO, June 30 (Reuters) - Chicago Board of Trade soft red winter wheat futures ended lower on Monday on pressure from the ongoing Northern Hemisphere harvest and larger-than-expected U.S. June 1 wheat stocks data, traders said.
CBOT September soft red winter wheat WU25 settled down 2-1/2 cents at $5.38-1/4 per bushel after dipping to $5.34-3/4, the contract's lowest since May 14.
K.C. September hard red winter wheat KWU25 ended down 7 cents at $5.26-3/4 a bushel.
Minneapolis September spring wheat MWEU25 fell 7-1/4 cents to finish at $6.20-3/4 a bushel and CBOT September hard red spring wheat HRSU25 ended down 6-3/4 cents at $6.19.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported U.S. June 1 wheat stockpiles at 851 million bushels, up 22 percent from a year ago and at the high end of a Reuters survey of analysts' expectations.
The USDA also reported U.S. all-wheat plantings for harvest in 2025 at 45.478 million acres, roughly in line with trade expectations but up slightly from its March 31 estimate of 45.350 million acres.
Ahead of the USDA's weekly crop progress report, analysts surveyed by Reuters on average had expected the government to rate 54% of the U.S. spring wheat crop and 49% of the winter wheat crop in good to excellent condition, unchanged from last week.
Analysts on average expected the USDA to report that the winter wheat harvest was 32% complete.
The USDA reported export inspections of U.S. wheat in the latest week at 434,539 metric tons, near the high end of trade estimates for 200,000 to 450,000 tons. USDA/I
European wheat futures fell to new life-of-contract lows, weakened by forecasts of larger-than-expected U.S. wheat sowings and inventories, while poor export prospects and weaker U.S. markets added downward pressure.
The CBOT reported 10 deliveries on first notice day against the CBOT July soft red winter wheat WN25 futures contract, which expires on July 14. The exchange also reported 315 lots delivered against K.C. July hard red winter wheat KWN25 futures and 182 contracts against CBOT July HRS HRSN25 futures. WHE/D
