CBOT wheat ends down on harvest pressure

- Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures fell on Monday on pressure from the expanding U.S. winter wheat harvest and a lack of supportive news, traders said.

  • CBOT July soft red winter wheat WN25 settled down 7-1/4 cents at $5.36-1/2 per bushel.

  • K.C. July hard red winter wheat KWN25 ended down 4-3/4 cents at $5.36 a bushel and Minneapolis July spring wheat MWEN25 fell 11-1/2 cents to finish at $6.22-3/4.

  • Ahead a weekly crop progress report due later on Monday from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, analysts surveyed by Reuters on average expected the government to report the U.S. winter wheat harvest was 11% complete, up from 4% a week ago.

  • Analysts on average expected the USDA to rate 54% of the U.S. winter wheat crop in good to excellent condition, unchanged from last week, while spring wheat ratings were also seen at 54% good to excellent, up a point from last week.

  • The USDA reported export inspections of U.S. wheat in the latest week at 388,752 metric tons, in line with trade expectations for 250,000 to 450,000 tons.

  • Russian wheat export prices decreased last week as a new crop approached the market amid moderately positive harvest forecasts, analysts said.

  • Romania is set for a new record soft wheat harvest this year, commodity analysis firm Argus said, citing a larger area and improved yield forecasts compared to last year.
