CHICAGO, May 13 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for corn were mostly steady to higher at U.S. Midwest processors, elevators and and river terminals on Tuesday, with dealers trying to entice farmers busy with planting to sell the grain.
The corn basis rose by 6 cents at a processor in Decatur, Illinois, and 3 cents at another in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It rose by 3 cents at an ethanol plant in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and 6 cents at a river terminal in Savanna, Illinois.
The soybean basis was mostly unchanged in a spot check of locations, with the exception of a grain elevator in Cincinnati, Ohio, where the basis fell 1 cent.
Farmers in the region have been busy with field work, with dry weather aiding progress. Dealers are raising prices to get them to take a break from planting and replenish corn supplies, one dealer said.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported on Monday that corn end stocks were tighter than trade expectations, and planting was moving faster than trade expectations.
On the Chicago Board of Trade, benchmark July corn futures CN25 were down 5-3/4 cents at $4.42-1/4 a bushel at 12:48 p.m. CST (1748 GMT), while July soybeans SN25 were up 2-1/4 cents at $10.73-1/2 a bushel.
