Mexico's Pemex sees 2025 crude goal short of government's goal

ReutersMay 6, 2025 5:13 PM

- Mexican state oil firm Pemex said its average crude production goal in 2025 is 1.58 million barrels per day (bpd), according to a filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The figure, from a company filing dated April 29 but published by Pemex this week, is below Pemex's current output and below Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum's stated goal of 1.8 million bpd.

On April 30, the company said in its first-quarter earnings report that Pemex and its partners pumped 1.62 million bpd of crude oil and condensate in the first quarter.

The company also said last week that it was working to reach the 1.8-million-bpd goal by the end of the year and maintain it at that level.

While Sheinbaum has pledged to raise production, older fields, particularly in the Gulf of Mexico, are being depleted and more recent discoveries have failed to compensate.
