ICE canola futures flat on tariffs caution

- ICE canola futures treaded water on Wednesday as soyoil rose, with traders in all North American crops waiting for the White House announcement on tariffs.

• "It's wait and see," said a trader about the looming tariffs announcement, scheduled after the canola market closed.

• May canola RSK5 settled down 60 cents at $626.50 per metric ton. New crop November RSX5 fell $1.90 to $628.50 and a $3.20 discount to July RSN5.

• Canola's relatively weak performance in the session compared to Chicago Board of Trade soyoil BOv1 involves the risk of U.S. tariffs plus China's tariffs on Canadian canola oil and meal. Canadian crushers will have tough decisions to make if Donald Trump imposes tariffs on Canadian canola.

• Chicago Board of Trade soyoil futures BOv1 rose 2.23%, adding to the hefty gains Monday with news that biofuels and fossil fuels interests have been hammering out a joint call for continued biofuels support.

• Euronext rapeseed futures COMc1 fell 1.67% and Malaysian palm oil futures FCPOc3 rose 1.68% to extend recent gains. POI/
