Authentication

TradingKeyTradingKeyTue, Apr 15

At its core, authentication is a security procedure that confirms your identity or login details before granting you access to resources, whether it's a blockchain network, a cryptocurrency exchange account, or a personal cryptocurrency wallet.

Nearly every online service or application we use requires you to log in before you can access personalized services or your account information. Cryptocurrency services and applications are no exception.

For instance, two-factor authentication is a security measure provided by all cryptocurrency exchanges that necessitates two distinct methods of user identification before allowing an account holder to access their account.

During the login or registration process, this may involve requiring both a username and password combination, along with an SMS-based code sent to the account holder’s mobile phone. All of these must be provided simultaneously, or access will be denied.

Many online services now offer software-based authentication applications, such as Google Authenticator, which operate on your smartphone or tablet. These apps generate a 6-digit one-time password that must be entered along with your username and password during the login process.

Crypto-related applications and services have also progressed to provide this advanced form of two-factor authentication.
