GameStop Chief Executive Ryan Cohen said he was making an unsolicited offer to buy eBay for about $56 billion and saw a path to make the e-commerce company a much bigger competitor to Amazon.com. eBay shares jumped 13.1% in overnight trading, while GameStop gained 7.4%.

Palantir shares rose 2.5% in overnight trading. The company will release Q1 results on Monday.

Some chip stocks rose in overnight trading. Micron Technology, Seagate Technology, SanDisk, and Intel rose 2%; AMD, Western Digital, and TSMC rose 1%.

Some optical communication stocks rose in overnight trading. AXT rose 4%; Fabrinet rose 3%; Lumentum, Applied Optoelectronics, Coherent, and Corning rose 2%.
