Initial jobless claims in the United States stood at 232,000 in the week ending October 18, the Department of Labor said in a report on Tuesday. The release was published outside of the regular schedule due to the recent government shutdown, with the data for the three previous weeks still missing.
The 4-week moving average was 58,000. The insured unemployment rate remained at 1.3% for the same week. The regular weekly jobless claims report is scheduled for Thursday.
