Stacks

Stacks is a cryptocurrency that aims to provide a layer for smart contracts and decentralized applications built on top of the Bitcoin blockchain. It was created to unlock the $500 billion in capital stored in Bitcoin, allowing developers to leverage the security and decentralization of the Bitcoin network to build new applications. The key innovation of Stacks is its Proof of Transfer (PoX) consensus mechanism, which ties the Stacks blockchain to the Bitcoin network. Miners on the Stacks network must transfer Bitcoin to mine new Stacks tokens, effectively linking the two blockchains together. This allows the Stacks network to inherit the security of the Bitcoin network, as an attacker would need to rewrite the Bitcoin blockchain in order to reorder Stacks transactions. Another unique feature of Stacks is its use of the Clarity programming language, which is designed to enable the creation of safe and decidable smart contracts. This is intended to provide more robust security and predictability for decentralized applications built on the Stacks platform.
