Optimism

Optimism is a Layer 2 blockchain solution built on top of the Ethereum network. It aims to help scale the Ethereum ecosystem by using a technology called optimistic rollups. Optimistic rollups allow transactions to be processed off the main Ethereum blockchain, while still being secured by the Ethereum network. Optimism is one of the leading scaling solutions for Ethereum, boasting over $500 million in Total Value Locked (TVL). It serves as the home base for a thriving ecosystem of 97 decentralized protocols, including some of the largest and most prominent projects in the Ethereum DeFi space. Among these are Synthetix (SNX), a leading derivatives exchange, Uniswap (UNI), a decentralized exchange (DEX), and Velodrome (VELO), an automated market maker (AMM). Optimism is designed around four key tenets: simplicity, pragmatism, sustainability, and optimism. The project aims to build iteratively, focusing on real-world needs and constraints rather than rushing towards scalability. This measured approach helps maintain the security and integrity of the network.
