Crypto Hack Worth $290 Million Triggers DeFi Contagion Shock

Hackers exploited a cross-chain bridge on Saturday, draining nearly $300 million from a key piece of decentralized finance infrastructure and setting off a ripple effect across multiple crypto platforms.

The attacker siphoned about 116,500 rsETH — a token issued by Kelp DAO that represents “restaked” Ether — by targeting a bridge built using LayerZero, a system that allows different blockchains to communicate. The total losses are estimated at roughly $293 million, making it the largest DeFi exploit of 2026.

Alcoa Is Close to a Deal to Sell Smelter Site to Bitcoin Miner

Alcoa Corp. is in advanced talks to sell a former smelter site in upstate New York to Bitcoin mining firm NYDIG as part of its plans to dispose of its dormant assets.

The top US aluminum producer is “close to a deal with NYDIG” for its Massena East site along the St. Lawrence River and that “it should be done in the middle part of this year,” Chief Executive Officer Bill Oplinger said in a Friday interview.

Michael Saylor dropped another hint at buying more Bitcoin (BTC) this week. Ahead of Monday, the day Strategy mostly announces BTC buying, Saylor’s famous “Orange Dots” post made it to X. The purchase could possibility go beyond $3 billion, according to analysts.

The overall net inflow of the US Bitcoin spot ETF on Friday was $663.91 million. The total net asset value of Bitcoin spot ETFs is $101.45 billion, and the ETF net asset ratio (market value compared to total Bitcoin market value) is 6.55%.
