TradingKey - On Wednesday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman made a significant announcement in the company's inaugural podcast: GPT-5 is expected to debut this summer, potentially marking the most important AI version to date.

He revealed that this model would integrate OpenAI's flagship features—combining GPT-4's versatility in natural language with o3's strengths in coding and scientific reasoning to create a more robust system.

The development of GPT-5 is driven by OpenAI's vision for the future: a model that not only responds to prompts but also functions like a digital agent with the ability to reason, plan, and interact across contexts. Should this trajectory hold, OpenAI might directly compete with search giants like Google.

Sam Altman also discussed new ideas for the company's revenue model during the podcast. Currently, OpenAI's income primarily comes from enterprise clients purchasing enhanced versions of ChatGPT, and the launch of GPT-5 could help maintain this momentum.

He admitted that their business model still requires improvement, and he is "not entirely opposed" to the possibility of incorporating advertising into ChatGPT, potentially reshaping the revenue generation from chatbots.

Nevertheless, he emphasized the need for extreme caution, as AI tools differ from social media and web search. Altering the model's output to cater to ad-paying users could erode trust among its users.

At present, the competition among AI large models is intensifying. Recently, OpenAI's o3 model saw an 80% price drop following the release of the "strongest-ever" o3-pro model, and Google made a significant impact with the launch of "AI Mode" at its May developer conference. Whether OpenAI can maintain its industry-leading position with the self-proclaimed "most pivotal" model to date, GPT-5, remains to be seen.
