Sensata Q3 Revenue Rises 8% as Industrials and AD&CE Drive Growth
Sensata Technologies reported strong third-quarter results, driven by double-digit growth in its Industrials and Aerospace, Defense, and Commercial Equipment segments, which offset softer automotive markets. Revenue rose 7.7% to $1.004 billion, while adjusted earnings per share increased 27% to $1.13. Operating cash flow improved significantly, and net leverage declined. Management forecast fourth-quarter revenue and adjusted earnings growth, supported by data-center and aerospace expansions. However, the outlook remains subject to global market instability, tariff and trade-policy changes, and execution risks regarding future product ramps.
Sensata Technologies reported stronger third-quarter revenue, adjusted earnings and cash generation as double-digit growth in its Industrials and Aerospace, Defense and Commercial Equipment businesses offset softer automotive end markets. The sensor and electrical-protection manufacturer also forecast year-over-year revenue and adjusted earnings growth for the fourth quarter.
Third-quarter revenue rose 7.7% to $1.004 billion, with organic growth of 6.8%. The results included $24 million of termination revenue tied to a canceled electric-vehicle program. Excluding that item, revenue was $980 million, representing reported growth of 5% and organic growth of 4%. Sensata said this marked its fifth consecutive quarter of year-over-year organic growth.
Adjusted operating income increased 19.9% to $215.3 million, lifting the adjusted operating margin to 21.5% from 19.3% a year earlier. Excluding the termination revenue, the margin was 19.5%, up 20 basis points year over year. Adjusted net income climbed 28.5% to $166.5 million, while adjusted earnings per share rose 27% to $1.13. Without the termination revenue, adjusted EPS was $0.97, up 9%.
On a GAAP basis, Sensata posted operating income of $175.3 million and net income of $114.2 million, or $0.78 per diluted share. That compared with an operating loss of $122.9 million and a net loss of $162.5 million, or $1.12 per share, in the prior-year period, which included a $225.7 million goodwill impairment charge.
Industrials and AD&CE lead growth
Industrials revenue advanced 12.6% to $209.8 million and increased 11.8% organically, supported by energy, data-center and HVAC applications. Segment operating income rose to $60.5 million from $50.7 million, expanding the operating margin by 160 basis points to 28.8%. Sensata said housing-related demand remained soft, while it expects the U.S. residential HVAC market to continue a shallow year-over-year recovery in the fourth quarter.
Revenue in Aerospace, Defense and Commercial Equipment rose 13.4% to $238 million, including 13.2% organic growth. This was the segment’s third consecutive quarter of double-digit organic growth, with broad market strength and commercial equipment providing the largest contribution. Operating income increased to $63.5 million from $57.4 million, though the segment margin declined 70 basis points to 26.7%.
Automotive revenue increased 3.7% to $555.8 million and grew 2.6% organically, including the EV-program termination revenue. Operating income rose to $157.9 million from $127 million, and the segment margin expanded to 28.4% from 23.7%. The performance came as global light-vehicle production declined 1.6% during the quarter, including decreases of 6% in China and 5% in North America, according to figures cited in the presentation.
Sensata expects global light-vehicle production to fall 4% year over year in the fourth quarter, largely because of weakness in China, and to decline 2% for the full year. By contrast, management expects continued strength in aerospace and defense, while the recovery in North American on-road truck production is expected to continue through year-end.
Cash flow and leverage improve
Third-quarter operating cash flow increased 41% to $225.3 million, helped by working-capital efficiencies. Free cash flow rose 45.6% to $198.3 million, equivalent to 119% of adjusted net income, compared with 105% a year earlier.
Year-to-date free cash flow reached $489.3 million, up 44.6%, with conversion of 112%. Sensata is seeking to sustain stronger cash generation through lower capital intensity, improved working-capital management and pricing embedded in program economics. The company estimates 2026 capital expenditures at no more than 3% of revenue and full-year adjusted net interest expense at approximately $111 million.
Gross debt stood at $2.43 billion at the end of September, down from $2.87 billion at the end of 2025. Net debt declined to $1.87 billion from $2.29 billion over the same period, while the net leverage ratio improved to 2.1 times last-12-month adjusted EBITDA from 2.7 times. Sensata repurchased $33 million of debt in the third quarter and paid $17.5 million in dividends, or $0.12 per share.
Data centers and aerospace expansion
Management identified data centers and next-generation aerospace platforms as expansion opportunities for Sensata’s existing sensing, contactor, electrical-protection, motor and actuator technologies. Data-center component revenue is estimated at $48 million in 2026, up 76% from $27 million in 2025. The company reported seven design wins across six hyperscale customers, with related ramps expected from mid-2027.
Sensata also introduced its FL Series flow sensors for liquid-cooled data centers, with shipments expected to begin in mid-2027. In aerospace, the company said its 2026 win rate for motors and actuators was about twice the 2025 level and roughly three times the 2024 level, with deliveries expected to ramp in 2028.
Fourth-quarter outlook
For the fourth quarter, Sensata expects revenue of $942 million to $972 million, representing growth of 3% to 6% from a year earlier. Adjusted operating income is projected at $185 million to $192 million, with an adjusted operating margin of 19.6% to 19.8%, ranging from flat to 20 basis points of year-over-year expansion.
Adjusted net income is expected to be $140 million to $145 million, up 8% to 12%, while adjusted EPS is forecast at $0.95 to $0.99, an increase of 8% to 13%. The guidance incorporates trade policies in effect as of October 26, 2026, and excludes any potential benefit from prospective tariff refunds.
Sensata cautioned that its outlook remains subject to global-market instability, supplier disruptions, tariff and trade-policy changes, metals-price volatility, cybersecurity threats, labor costs, product-liability and recall claims, regulatory changes, and the market acceptance of new products. Execution risks also remain around expansion into data centers, aerospace and other adjacent markets where expected shipments and revenue ramps are scheduled for future periods.
