Investors usually review these together rather than relying on one number.

Assets are resources the company owns or controls, such as cash, receivables, inventory, investments, and property. Liabilities are obligations the company owes, such as accounts payable, debt, leases, and taxes. Shareholders' equity is the residual value after liabilities are subtracted from assets.

Current assets and current liabilities are generally expected to be converted, used, paid, or settled within one year or one operating cycle.
