Some chip stocks jumped in morning trading. United Microelectronics and GlobalFoundries rose 9%; Lam Research rose 5%; Micron and SanDisk rose 4%; Applied Materials, Intel, KLA-Tencor, and Western Digital rose 3%; Seagate and ASML rose 2%; Broadcom, VanEck Semiconductor ETF, and TSMC rose 1%.
