BlackRock, Nvidia, xAI, and Microsoft Lead $40bn Takeover of Aligned Data Centers
An investment consortium including BlackRock, Nvidia, xAI, and Microsoft has agreed to acquire Texas-based Aligned Data Centers from Macquarie Asset Management for $40 billion, marking the first deal under their year-old AI Infrastructure Partnership. The group, which also includes Global Infrastructure Partners and Abu Dhabi’s MGX, will use a $100 billion capital pool to fund data center development supporting the growing demand for AI computing power.
The partnership brings together capital, high-performance semiconductors, industrial materials, and energy resources to accelerate construction. Backers also include Temasek, the Kuwait Investment Authority, and major suppliers such as GE Vernova, NextEra Energy, and Cisco.The consortium has allocated $30 billion in equity and $70 billion in debt financing for acquisitions and construction, beginning with Aligned. It plans to more than double Aligned’s 50 data center campuses across the U.S. and Latin America in the coming years.
