Nasdaq Opens 0.56% Higher While Dow Gains 0.3%. Merus Soars 37%; EA Surges 5% on Takeover
Wall Street's main indexes opened higher on Monday, kicking off a potentially turbulent week on a strong footing as investors shrugged off hawkish remarks from a Federal Reserve official and weighed the impact of a government shutdown.

Shares of Electronic Arts jumped more than 5% after the video game company announced that it’s going to be taken private in a $55 billion deal. U.S. M&A announced has surpassed $1 trillion year-to-date so far this year, up 29% from the same time a year ago, according to Goldman Sachs.
Merus soared 37% after larger biotech peer Genmab said it planned to buy the Dutch drugmaker for $8 billion, or $97 a share, in cash. Merus' pipeline includes a promising head and neck cancer drug and is "a compelling strategic fit" to Genmab's antibody therapies and oncology portfolio, Genmab said in a statement. The deal is expected to close by the first quarter of 2026. Genmab's American depositary receipts fell 3.5%.
