The Trump administration is seeking an equity stake of as much as 10% in Lithium Americas as it renegotiates terms of the company's $2.26 billion Energy Department loan for its Thacker Pass lithium project with General Motors, two people familiar with the discussions told Reuters.
Lithium Americas shares soared in overnight trading. Other lithium companies also jumped. ioneer rose 15%, Albemarle rose 7%, American Battery Technology rose 6%.
Micron forecast first-quarter revenue above market estimates, betting on booming demand for artificial intelligence hardware to boost sales of its advanced memory chips as a race to dominate AI tech intensifies. The shares rose 0.5% in overnight trading.
