U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.73%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Pharmaceuticals&Biotech, Beverage and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.73% to hit a new 1-month low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Smurfit WestRock PLC (LON:SWR), which rose 9.70% or 334.00 points to trade at 3,779.00 at the close. Entain PLC (LON:ENT) added 8.64% or 61.60 points to end at 774.80 and Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) was up 5.62% or 965.00 points to 18,140.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which lost 3.93% or 97.50 points to trade at 2,385.50 in late trade. GSK plc (LON:GSK) declined 3.07% or 44.50 points to end at 1,407.00 and AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) shed 2.84% or 328.00 points to 11,206.00.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 956 to 942 and 565 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.59% or 16.35 to $2,797.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.99% or 1.34 to hit $68.55 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.91% or 1.35 to trade at $72.08 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.19% to 1.30, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.52% to 0.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 103.96.
