U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.88%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mobile Telecommunications, Oil&Gas Producers and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.88%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Pearson PLC (LON:PSON), which rose 4.34% or 46.50 points to trade at 1,118.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 3.39% or 25.50 points to end at 778.50 and HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) was up 3.12% or 21.60 points to 713.70 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Airtel Africa Plc (LON:AAF), which lost 7.21% or 7.90 points to trade at 101.70 in late trade. BP PLC (LON:BP) declined 4.97% or 19.85 points to end at 379.25 and JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:JD) shed 3.68% or 4.90 points to 128.10.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1146 to 697 and 625 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.99% or 27.35 to $2,783.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.59% or 0.40 to hit $66.98 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.61% or 0.43 to trade at $70.57 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.25% to 1.30, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.31% to 0.83.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 104.24.
