Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.32%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Energy, Materials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.32% to hit a new all time high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were K92 Mining Inc (TSX:KNT), which rose 16.56% or 1.30 points to trade at 9.15 at the close. IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) added 7.22% or 0.45 points to end at 6.68 and Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG) was up 8.89% or 2.37 points to 29.03 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Toronto Dominion Bank (TSX:TD), which lost 5.03% or 4.33 points to trade at 81.76 in late trade. Stella-Jones Inc. (TSX:SJ) declined 3.87% or 3.64 points to end at 90.40 and Richelieu Hardware Ltd. (TSX:RCH) shed 2.06% or 0.82 points to 39.02.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 483 to 436 and 91 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.26% to 10.37.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.83% or 21.80 to $2,647.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 3.26% or 2.39 to hit $75.63 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 3.32% or 2.54 to trade at $79.12 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.25% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.21% to 0.67.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 102.65.
