U.S. shares higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 1.14%

Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Oil&Gas and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 1.14% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index added 1.15%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.45%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD), which rose 2.80% or 10.23 points to trade at 375.59 at the close. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) added 2.34% or 11.67 points to end at 509.42 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was up 2.16% or 0.44 points to 20.54 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Procter&Gamble Company (NYSE:PG), which lost 0.58% or 0.98 points to trade at 169.17 in late trade. Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) declined 0.20% or 0.55 points to end at 267.40 and Merck&Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) gained 0.04% or 0.05 points to 116.60.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Builders FirstSource Inc (NYSE:BLDR) which rose 8.75% to 182.21, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:NCLH) which was up 7.76% to settle at 17.50 and Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which gained 7.54% to close at 16.61.

The worst performers were Intuit Inc (NASDAQ:INTU) which was down 6.83% to 619.85 in late trade, Brown&Brown Inc (NYSE:BRO) which lost 1.61% to settle at 102.00 and McKesson Corporation (NYSE:MCK) which was down 1.59% to 552.00 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Portage Biotech Inc (NASDAQ:PRTG) which rose 121.40% to 6.00, Momentus Inc (NASDAQ:MNTS) which was up 84.05% to settle at 1.05 and Guardion Health Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:GHSI) which gained 59.29% to close at 18.00.

The worst performers were U BX Technology Ltd (NASDAQ:UBXG) which was down 92.63% to 2.35 in late trade, Farmmi Inc (NASDAQ:FAMI) which lost 57.27% to settle at 0.24 and GD Culture Group Ltd (NASDAQ:GDC) which was down 29.68% to 5.45 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2483 to 367 and 62 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2590 rose and 749 declined, while 105 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 9.63% to 15.86.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.20% or 30.15 to $2,546.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.60% or 1.90 to hit $74.91 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 2.37% or 1.83 to trade at $79.05 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.72% to 1.12, while USD/JPY fell 1.32% to 144.32.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.83% at 100.56.
