Cloudflare Q3 2026 Revenue Jumps 39% as Large Customers Top 5,000
Cloudflare reported a 39% year-over-year revenue increase to $782.5 million for the third quarter of 2026, driven by enterprise sales expansion and a 25% growth in large customers. Dollar-based net retention rose to 122%, while AI and developer services emerged as key strategic growth drivers. Management projects full-year 2026 revenue of approximately $2.96 billion and outlined an upgraded long-term operating model targeting non-GAAP operating margins above 30%. Key risks include fluctuating product demand, intensifying competition, macroeconomic uncertainties, and rapid technological shifts, particularly within artificial intelligence.
Cloudflare Inc. reported a 39% year-over-year increase in third-quarter 2026 revenue to $782.5 million, as the internet infrastructure and security provider added more large customers and generated a greater share of sales from those accounts. The company also projected 37% revenue growth for the full year and outlined a long-term operating model targeting margins above its previous framework.
Revenue for the quarter ended September 30 rose from $562.0 million a year earlier. Non-GAAP gross margin was 72%, while dollar-based net retention reached 122%, compared with 119% in the third quarter of 2025 and 120% in the preceding quarter. The retention metric measures recurring revenue growth from existing paying customers, including expansion and net of contraction and attrition.
Large customers account for a growing share of revenue
Cloudflare ended the quarter with 5,006 large customers, defined as paying customers generating more than $100,000 in annualized revenue. That represented 25% year-over-year growth from 4,009. Large customers contributed 75% of quarterly revenue, up from 73% a year earlier.
The company attributed its broader growth record to investment in enterprise sales, momentum among large customers, expansion within existing accounts and adoption across its product portfolio. Revenue from outside the United States represented 48% of the third-quarter total.
Cloudflare operated in more than 340 cities across over 130 countries as of September 30, with 590 terabits per second of network capacity. The company said more than 95% of the world’s internet-connected population was within about 50 milliseconds of a Cloudflare data center.
AI and developer services remain a strategic focus
Cloudflare positioned artificial intelligence infrastructure and security as a central growth area. More than half of the traffic on its network is now non-human, and daily AI-agent requests increased by more than 1,700% over one year, according to the presentation.
Its AI-related offerings span application security, workforce controls and developer infrastructure, including Workers AI, AI Gateway, Agents SDK and AI Search. Cloudflare said its platform had more than 10 million active developers as of October 2026, up from more than 4.5 million in December 2025. The company defines active developers as unique users with activity on its Developer Platform products during the previous year.
Management’s strategy is to combine Cloudflare’s application, network, Zero Trust and developer services on a single global network. The company also described an opportunity to provide infrastructure for authenticating, controlling and metering automated traffic as AI agents take a larger role in online activity.
Full-year revenue forecast approaches $3 billion
As of November 5, Cloudflare expected fourth-quarter revenue of $845 million to $846 million, representing 38% year-over-year growth. The presentation projected quarterly operating income of $156 million to $157 million, an operating margin of 18% to 19%, and earnings per share of $0.43.
For full-year 2026, the company forecast revenue of $2.963 billion to $2.964 billion, up 37%. Operating income was projected at $462 million to $463 million, with a 16% operating margin and earnings per share of $1.35. Network capital expenditures were expected to equal 14% to 15% of annual revenue.
Cloudflare’s updated long-term operating model calls for a gross margin of 70% to 77%, a non-GAAP operating margin above 30%, and a free cash flow margin of 30% to 35% or higher. The model also targets sales and marketing expense at 23% to 25% of revenue, research and development at 15% to 17%, and general and administrative expense at 3% to 5%.
The company ended the quarter after raising $2.46 billion, net of issuance costs, through convertible notes due in 2031 and repaying $1.29 billion of convertible notes that matured in August 2026. It also had a $400 million senior secured revolving credit facility available for working capital and general corporate purposes.
Cloudflare cautioned that its forecasts depend on assumptions involving product demand, customer acquisition and retention, sales execution, competition, capital spending and rapidly evolving technologies, including AI. It also identified adverse macroeconomic conditions, geopolitical conflicts, tariffs and other barriers to cross-border trade as uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from its expectations.
