Eaton Raises 2026 Outlook as Q3 Sales Rise 28%
Eaton raised its full-year 2026 guidance after reporting record third-quarter sales of $8.95 billion and adjusted EPS of $3.68, driven by robust electrical demand and data-center growth. Segment operating profit rose 29% to $2.26 billion. The electrical sector posted surging orders and backlog, bolstered by acquisitions like Boyd Thermal. Looking ahead, management projects continued expansion across key end markets through 2027 and progress on the Mobility business separation. However, risks remain, including acquisition integration, supply constraints, inflation, geopolitical instability, and trade-policy shifts.
Eaton (NYSE: ETN) raised its full-year 2026 organic growth and adjusted earnings guidance for the third time this year after third-quarter sales and adjusted earnings per share reached records, supported by strong electrical demand, acquisitions and expanding output from new capacity.
The power-management company reported third-quarter sales of $8.95 billion, up 28% from $6.99 billion a year earlier. Organic growth contributed 19 percentage points, acquisitions added 8 points and currency translation added 1 point.
Segment operating profit increased 29% to $2.26 billion, while the segment operating margin rose 30 basis points to 25.3%. Adjusted earnings advanced 20% to $1.43 billion, and adjusted earnings per share increased by the same percentage to $3.68. Eaton said organic growth, segment margin and adjusted EPS all exceeded the high end of its guidance ranges.
Electrical businesses lead growth
Electrical Americas sales rose 22% to $4.17 billion, entirely from organic growth. Operating profit increased 20% to $1.24 billion, though the margin declined 50 basis points from a year earlier to 29.8%. The margin was 230 basis points higher than in the second quarter as added capacity translated into output. Eaton said 18 of 25 capacity projects had been completed and the steepest part of the production ramp was behind it.
Demand indicators remained strong in the Americas business. Orders increased 39% on a rolling 12-month basis, the book-to-bill ratio was 1.3 and backlog rose 33% year over year to $16 billion.
Electrical Global posted a 58% increase in sales to $2.73 billion, including 27% organic growth and a 31% acquisition contribution. Operating profit climbed 75% to $576 million, lifting the operating margin by 200 basis points to 21.1%. Backlog more than doubled, rising 121%, while rolling 12-month orders increased 51%.
Across Eaton’s Electrical Sector, rolling 12-month data-center orders increased by more than 100%, while third-quarter data-center revenue rose approximately 65% from a year earlier. The company also reported stronger demand in commercial and institutional markets and industrial facilities. Overall Electrical Sector backlog increased 46%, with rolling 12-month orders up 43%.
Boyd Thermal, which expands Eaton’s grid-to-chip power and cooling portfolio, recorded roughly triple-digit year-over-year growth in third-quarter revenue and orders, while backlog was about three times the prior-year level. Eaton now expects Boyd Thermal to generate approximately $1.9 billion of revenue in 2026. The company said the acquisition is broadening customer access and supporting integrated power and cooling offerings.
Aerospace and Mobility
Aerospace sales increased 11% to $1.20 billion, reflecting 6% organic growth and a 5% acquisition contribution. Operating profit rose 6% to $298 million, but the operating margin fell 100 basis points to 24.9%. Rolling 12-month orders grew 20%, backlog increased 33% and the book-to-bill ratio was 1.2.
Mobility sales advanced 10% to $852 million, including 9% organic growth and a 1% currency benefit. Operating profit increased 39% to $146 million, and the margin expanded 370 basis points to 17.2%. Eaton said the planned separation and divestiture of the Mobility business remained on track to close within the first four months of 2027.
2026 outlook raised
Eaton now expects full-year adjusted EPS of $13.70 to $13.80, organic growth of 13% to 15% and segment operating margins of 24.1% to 24.5%. The company projects operating cash flow of $5.0 billion to $5.4 billion and free cash flow of $3.9 billion to $4.3 billion.
For the fourth quarter, management expects adjusted EPS of $4.05 to $4.15, organic growth of 13% to 15% and segment operating margins of 25.4% to 25.8%.
By segment, Eaton’s full-year organic growth outlook is 18% to 20% for Electrical Americas, 15% to 17% for Electrical Global, 7.5% to 9.5% for Aerospace and 2% to 4% for Mobility. The corresponding operating-margin ranges are 28.8% to 29.2%, 19.6% to 20.0%, 24.3% to 24.7% and 13.0% to 15.0%, respectively.
Looking to 2027, Eaton assumes approximately 11% growth across its end markets, with data centers and distributed IT, utilities, commercial and institutional facilities, and industrial facilities among the areas expected to support expansion. The company also expects Boyd Thermal’s growth to be included in organic results beginning in March 2027.
Eaton cautioned that its outlook remains subject to acquisition integration, supply and labor constraints, inflation, cybersecurity incidents, tariffs and other trade-policy changes, geopolitical instability, end-market volatility and the company’s ability to complete the Mobility separation on schedule or at all.
