Aptiv Maintains 2026 Earnings Outlook, Cuts Cash Flow View
Aptiv PLC maintained its full-year 2026 revenue and adjusted earnings guidance despite reporting lower third-quarter adjusted EBITDA and earnings per share. The company reduced its free-cash-flow outlook to reflect material and semiconductor inflation. Third-quarter revenue rose 2% to $3.20 billion, supported by non-automotive market growth. Aptiv secured $4 billion in new commercial awards, expanding in physical-AI and non-automotive sectors. Looking to a cautious preliminary 2027 outlook, Aptiv forecasts continued revenue growth alongside compressed adjusted EBITDA margins, citing ongoing automotive uncertainty, trade risks, and inflationary pressures.
Aptiv PLC (NYSE: APTV) maintained its full-year 2026 revenue and adjusted earnings guidance after reporting record third-quarter revenue, but lowered its free-cash-flow outlook to reflect inflation in semiconductors and other key materials. The automotive technology supplier also outlined a cautious preliminary view for 2027, forecasting revenue growth alongside lower adjusted EBITDA margins.
Third-quarter revenue increased 2% to $3.20 billion from pro forma revenue of $3.13 billion a year earlier. Adjusted revenue growth, which excludes foreign-exchange and commodity effects, was also 2%. Automotive revenue declined 1%, in line with weighted global vehicle production, while non-automotive revenue rose 11%, driven by other industrial markets.
Adjusted EBITDA fell to $567 million from $598 million, reducing the adjusted EBITDA margin to 17.7% from 19.1%. Aptiv attributed the pressure to product mix, including lower software revenue, investments supporting organic growth, and a 40-basis-point headwind from foreign exchange and commodities.
Adjusted earnings per share declined to $1.42 from $1.48. Lower operating income reduced adjusted EPS by $0.16, while a lower share count contributed a $0.07 benefit and tax effects added $0.02. On a GAAP basis, net income attributable to Aptiv was $194 million, or $0.94 per diluted share. Free cash flow totaled $194 million, reflecting $320 million of operating cash flow and $126 million of capital expenditures.
Non-Automotive Growth Supports Engineered Components
Engineered Components revenue rose 7% on a reported basis to $1.84 billion, with adjusted growth of 6%. Automotive sales increased 2%, while non-automotive sales grew 16%, supported by gains across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
The segment’s adjusted EBITDA increased to $387 million from $379 million, but its margin narrowed to 21.1% from 22.1%. Aptiv said commodity costs weighed on profitability, partly offset by the benefit from higher volume.
Intelligent Systems revenue declined 3% to $1.40 billion. Automotive revenue fell 4%, and non-automotive revenue increased 3%. Weakness in Europe was partly offset by growth in North America and Asia-Pacific. Adjusted EBITDA dropped to $180 million from $219 million, with the margin falling to 12.8% from 15.2%, reflecting lower revenue and the timing of engineering credits, partly offset by operating performance.
Aptiv secured about $4 billion of new commercial awards during the quarter, comprising $2.3 billion in Engineered Components and $1.6 billion in Intelligent Systems. More than 20% of year-to-date China bookings were tied to export programs, while year-to-date non-automotive bookings more than doubled from the prior-year period.
Automotive awards included advanced driver-assistance systems, radar, integrated cockpit controllers, cable management and modular connectors. Outside automotive, the company reported awards in drones, robotics, data-center and energy-storage infrastructure, medical devices and telecommunications. Aptiv also highlighted expanded physical-AI work with NVIDIA and Wind River software support for Samsung’s AI radio-access-network program in Korea.
2026 Earnings Guidance Maintained, Cash Flow Reduced
For 2026, Aptiv continues to expect revenue of $12.65 billion to $12.75 billion, representing adjusted growth of about 2% at the midpoint. Adjusted EBITDA is projected at $2.31 billion to $2.37 billion, with an adjusted margin of approximately 18.4%, while adjusted EPS is expected to range from $5.60 to $5.80.
The company now forecasts full-year free cash flow of $625 million to $675 million, with the reduction reflecting material inflation. At the guidance midpoint, free cash flow would be about $650 million.
Fourth-quarter guidance calls for revenue of $3.11 billion to $3.21 billion and adjusted growth of approximately 3% at the midpoint. Adjusted EBITDA is expected to range from $582 million to $642 million, with adjusted EPS of $1.35 to $1.55.
Aptiv repurchased $233 million of shares in the third quarter, bringing its year-to-date total to $558 million. The company remains committed to returning at least $650 million through repurchases in 2026 and plans to return 100% of free cash flow through the end of 2027.
Preliminary 2027 Outlook Reflects Automotive Uncertainty
Aptiv’s early 2027 outlook calls for revenue of approximately $13.2 billion to $13.5 billion. The range assumes adjusted revenue growth of roughly 4% to 6%, corresponding with weighted global vehicle production ranging from a 2% decline to flat output.
The forecast includes about $700 million of recoveries related to material-cost inflation, principally for memory semiconductors. Aptiv also expects a roughly $300 million European revenue headwind from net program roll-offs and lower exports from Europe to China.
Adjusted EBITDA margin is projected at approximately 17.2% to 17.5%, below the 18.4% expected for 2026. The company said inflation-related recoveries would dilute the margin, while foreign exchange and commodities are expected to create an additional headwind of about 30 basis points. Excluding recovery revenue, Aptiv expects a 26% to 27% incremental margin on revenue growth.
Management described the 2027 environment as dynamic, citing semiconductor and other material inflation, vehicle-affordability pressures, and uncertainty around trade and tariffs. Other disclosed risks include economic conditions, currency and interest-rate movements, cyclical automotive production, component availability, geopolitical conflicts, labor disruptions and the company’s ability to retain key contracts and customers.
