New Zealand observes Daylight Saving Time from the last Sunday in September to the first Sunday in April. In Australia, Daylight Saving Time generally runs from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April.
In Australia, Daylight Saving Time is observed in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory. Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not observe Daylight Saving Time.
Why is daylight saving observed?
Daylight Saving Time is intended to make better use of longer daylight hours during the warmer months. Moving clocks forward by one hour shifts more daylight into the evening, allowing more of the available daylight to be used for work, leisure and other activities.
