NVIDIA will invest $3.5 billion in MediaTek via bonds convertible into MediaTek shares, expanding cooperation between the two chip designers.
Under the arrangement MediaTek will adopt NVIDIA’s NVLink Fusion and the newly announced NVHBM interconnect technologies to enable smoother communication among data-center components; NVIDIA is pushing partners to build chips that can plug into its dominant data-center ecosystem.
MediaTek aims to help data-center operators develop customized components to challenge Broadcom and MARVELL. Separately, Amazon previously agreed to deploy an additional 2 million NVIDIA components and to use NVIDIA’s interconnect tech in its in‑house chips.
