U.S. shares mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.13%

Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Telecoms and Oil&Gas sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Healthcare, Industrials and Consumer Services sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.13%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.39%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.60%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 2.63% or 3.68 points to trade at 143.87 at the close. International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) added 1.51% or 3.10 points to end at 208.09 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) was up 1.44% or 0.60 points to 42.25 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which lost 2.31% or 1.77 points to trade at 74.89 in late trade. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) declined 1.34% or 1.54 points to end at 113.54 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) shed 1.29% or 1.83 points to 140.15.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which rose 15.93% to 21.54, Henry Schein Inc (NASDAQ:HSIC) which was up 7.46% to settle at 73.89 and Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which gained 7.22% to close at 39.51.

The worst performers were Amentum Holdings LLC (NYSE:AMTM) which was down 9.66% to 22.77 in late trade, Palantir Technologies Inc (NYSE:PLTR) which lost 6.87% to settle at 61.25 and Uber Technologies Inc (NYSE:UBER) which was down 5.33% to 69.35 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Bluejay Diagnostics Inc (NASDAQ:BJDX) which rose 5,534.44% to 3.73, Universe Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:UPC) which was up 1,428.07% to settle at 2.15 and HCW Biologics Inc (NASDAQ:HCWB) which gained 310.73% to close at 1.24.

The worst performers were QMMM Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:QMMM) which was down 76.40% to 1.73 in late trade, CareMax Inc (NASDAQ:CMAX) which lost 48.21% to settle at 0.87 and Neurogene Inc (NASDAQ:NGNE) which was down 42.58% to 19.82 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1655 to 1181 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1856 fell and 1478 advanced, while 107 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.47% to 15.58.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.76% or 45.15 to $2,615.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 3.42% or 2.29 to hit $69.21 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 3.22% or 2.29 to trade at $73.33 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.55% to 1.06, while USD/JPY rose 0.18% to 154.62.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.45% at 106.14.
