Portugal shares higher at close of trade; PSI up 0.23%

Investing.com – Portugal equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Telecoms and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Lisbon, the PSI gained 0.23%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the PSI were Mota Engil SGPS SA (ELI:MOTA), which rose 3.63% or 0.09 points to trade at 2.57 at the close. Semapa (ELI:SEM) added 2.31% or 0.32 points to end at 14.16 and Jeronimo Martins SGPS SA (ELI:JMT) was up 1.45% or 0.26 points to 18.19 in late trade.

Biggest losers included EDP Renovaveis (ELI:EDPR), which lost 2.67% or 0.30 points to trade at 10.94 in late trade. EDP Energias de Portugal SA (ELI:EDP) declined 0.57% or 0.02 points to end at 3.30 and CTT Correios de Portugal SA (ELI:CTT) shed 0.35% or 0.02 points to 4.28.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 18 to 7 and 7 ended unchanged on the Lisbon Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Brent oil for January delivery was up 0.56% or 0.42 to $75.34 a barrel. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.50% or 0.36 to hit $72.05 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 1.02% or 27.20 to trade at $2,703.50 a troy ounce.

EUR/USD was up 0.60% to 1.08, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.17% to 0.83.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.62% at 104.34.
