France shares lower at close of trade; CAC 40 down 0.51%

Investing.com – France equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Consumer Services, Basic Materials and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 declined 0.51%, while the SBF 120 index fell 0.55%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Thales (EPA:TCFP), which rose 2.87% or 4.30 points to trade at 154.25 at the close. Stellantis NV (EPA:STLAM) added 1.82% or 0.23 points to end at 12.87 and Publicis Groupe SA (EPA:PUBP) was up 1.73% or 1.75 points to 102.80 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Credit Agricole SA (EPA:CAGR), which lost 3.77% or 0.54 points to trade at 13.77 in late trade. Pernod Ricard SA (EPA:PERP) declined 3.30% or 3.75 points to end at 109.95 and L’Oreal SA (EPA:OREP) shed 2.76% or 9.60 points to 337.70.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Viridien SA (EPA:VIRI) which rose 10.07% to 38.04, Vallourec (EPA:VLLP) which was up 6.90% to settle at 15.58 and X Fab Silicon Foundries EV (EPA:XFAB) which gained 6.48% to close at 4.47.

The worst performers were Solvay SA (EBR:SOLB) which was down 6.59% to 35.45 in late trade, SEB SA (EPA:SEBF) which lost 5.50% to settle at 91.00 and Nexans SA (EPA:NEXS) which was down 4.70% to 125.70 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 279 to 208 and 92 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 18.96 a new 52-week high.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 2.71% or 74.55 to $2,675.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.10% or 0.07 to hit $71.92 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.37% or 0.28 to trade at $75.25 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 1.85% to 1.07, while EUR/GBP fell 0.67% to 0.83.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.69% at 105.07.
