U.S. shares higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.69%

Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Consumer Services, Healthcare and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.69%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.41%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.80%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 7.81% or 1.68 points to trade at 23.20 at the close. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) added 6.19% or 11.53 points to end at 197.93 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 3.54% or 5.28 points to 154.59 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which lost 1.83% or 0.77 points to trade at 41.36 in late trade. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) declined 1.33% or 3.00 points to end at 222.91 and 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) shed 0.97% or 1.25 points to 127.22.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Waters Corporation (NYSE:WAT) which rose 19.84% to 387.21, Charter Communications Inc (NASDAQ:CHTR) which was up 11.87% to settle at 366.49 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) which gained 7.81% to close at 23.20.

The worst performers were The AES Corporation (NYSE:AES) which was down 10.79% to 14.71 in late trade, Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which lost 10.56% to settle at 26.04 and Amcor (NYSE:AMCR) which was down 7.82% to 10.26 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Fundamental Global Inc (NASDAQ:FGF) which rose 2,039.42% to 22.25, Vast Renewables Ltd (NASDAQ:VSTE) which was up 140.00% to settle at 4.80 and Chromadex Corp (NASDAQ:CDXC) which gained 67.91% to close at 5.86.

The worst performers were ESSA Pharma Inc (NASDAQ:EPIX) which was down 73.08% to 1.40 in late trade, Elevai Labs Inc (NASDAQ:ELAB) which lost 51.02% to settle at 0.03 and Ostin Technology Group Co Ltd (NASDAQ:OST) which was down 42.80% to 0.29 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1526 to 1275 and 74 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1797 rose and 1508 declined, while 119 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 5.53% to 21.88.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.20% or 5.50 to $2,743.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.30% or 0.21 to hit $69.47 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.34% or 0.25 to trade at $73.06 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.46% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.65% to 153.02.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.36% at 104.25.
