Germany shares lower at close of trade; DAX down 1.03%

Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Construction, Retail and Software sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 1.03%, while the MDAX index fell 1.26%, and the TecDAX index fell 1.51%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Fresenius SE&Co KGAA O.N. (ETR:FREG), which rose 0.81% or 0.27 points to trade at 33.52 at the close. Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (ETR:DBKGn) added 0.80% or 0.12 points to end at 15.62 and Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (ETR:SATG_p) was up 0.76% or 1.80 points to 237.70 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Zalando SE (ETR:ZALG), which lost 3.80% or 1.09 points to trade at 27.62 in late trade. Rheinmetall AG (ETR:RHMG) declined 2.57% or 12.50 points to end at 473.20 and Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (ETR:IFXGn) shed 2.34% or 0.69 points to 29.02.

The top performers on the MDAX were Stabilus (ETR:STM1) which rose 6.91% to 36.35, Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (ETR:FMEG) which was up 1.56% to settle at 35.91 and Jungheinrich AG O.N.VZO (ETR:JUNG_p) which gained 1.45% to close at 25.12.

The worst performers were Knorr-Bremse AG (ETR:KBX) which was down 6.20% to 75.60 in late trade, Aroundtown Property Holdings PLC (ETR:AT1) which lost 5.31% to settle at 2.73 and Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (ETR:AFXG) which was down 4.87% to 57.60 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (ETR:SATG_p) which rose 0.76% to 237.70, 11 AG (ETR:1U1) which was up 0.62% to settle at 12.94 and Elmos Semiconductor AG (ETR:ELGG) which gained 0.55% to close at 54.90.

The worst performers were Atoss Software AG (ETR:AOFG) which was down 6.19% to 121.20 in late trade, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (ETR:AFXG) which lost 4.87% to settle at 57.60 and Kontron AG (ETR:KTN) which was down 4.80% to 15.47 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 428 to 188 and 27 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 5.42% to 18.31.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.75% or 48.90 to $2,751.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.76% or 0.52 to hit $69.13 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.64% or 0.46 to trade at $72.62 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.04% to 1.09, while EUR/GBP rose 0.78% to 0.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 104.03.
