U.K. shares higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 0.17%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Metals&Mining, Beverage and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.17%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 6.16% or 141.50 points to trade at 2,439.50 at the close. Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) added 6.14% or 39.40 points to end at 681.60 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 5.78% or 111.00 points to 2,031.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Shell PLC (LON:SHEL), which lost 4.62% or 117.00 points to trade at 2,415.00 in late trade. BP PLC (LON:BP) declined 4.10% or 16.40 points to end at 383.85 and British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) shed 2.82% or 80.00 points to 2,762.00.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1182 to 651 and 638 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.18% or 4.95 to $2,689.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.27% or 1.58 to hit $68.11 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.99% or 1.45 to trade at $71.45 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.64% to 1.34, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.29% to 0.83.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 100.34.
