Investing.com -- The Trump administration is discussing deals more than 15 trading partners  and could announced some agreement "very soon," U.S. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Tuesday.

Trump isn't showing any sign of extending an olive brunch to China -- after recently hiking tariffs on Beijing to 145% --  and appears to waiting for Chinese President Xi Jinping to blink first.

"The ball is in China's court: China needs to make a deal with us, we don't have to make a deal with them," Leavitt told a press briefing. "The president has made it quite clear that he's open to a deal with China."

The announcement comes less than a week after President Donald Trump said he would hike tariffs on China but pause reciprocal tariffs for 90 days for most other countries, who had not retaliated.

The reciprocal tariffs were lowered to 10% immediately and the president said deals would be made on country by country basis .
