Investing.com -- Iran is set to face new sanctions from the U.S. and Europe after sending short-range ballistic missiles to Russia, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday, citing unnamed U.S. and European officials.

Tehran was previously warned not to provide Moscow with these missiles, but a U.S. official confirmed to the Journal the missiles “have finally been delivered.”

The arms shipment included a couple of hundred short-range ballistic missiles, the Journal said, citing Western officials.

Iran, however, denied it is delivering ballistic missiles for Russia to use in Ukraine, according to the report.

The Russian Embassy in Washington denied didn't immediately respond to the Journal's request for comment.

European officials said Friday that they were working with their U.S. counterparts to issue a response that would involve imposing additional sanctions on Iran.
