World Chain Activates Karst Upgrade As Older OP Stack Nodes Risk Divergence

World Chain has completed its Karst network upgrade, putting new OP Stack software requirements into effect for node operators.

The activation was scheduled for 12:00 UTC on September 21 at Unix timestamp 1789992000.

Older Nodes Can Fall Out Of Consensus

The practical impact is concentrated on infrastructure operators.

World Chain nodes need to run op-geth v1.101701.0 or newer alongside op-node v1.16.9 or newer. Operators that remain on incompatible older versions risk diverging from the upgraded network.

That makes Karst a meaningful operational event even though ordinary wallet users will barely notice it.

No token migration, wallet update or end-user transaction is required.

OP Stack Upgrades Are Becoming Routine Infrastructure Work

World Chain is built on the OP Stack, which means network operators inherit an increasingly mature release process around execution clients, rollup nodes and protocol upgrades.

Karst illustrates the split between what users experience and what operators need to manage.

For users, the chain keeps working.

For validators and infrastructure providers, however, missing a required software version can create a real consensus problem.

The upgrade therefore matters less as a flashy feature launch and more as the maintenance discipline required to keep a production Layer 2 network aligned with its underlying stack.

Karst is now active on World Chain mainnet, and the software requirements are no longer optional for node operators that want to remain on the canonical chain.
