Supreme Court rules Trump’s global tariffs illegal in rare rebuke of executive trade power

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act does not allow President Donald Trump to impose his global tariffs.

Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the opinion, and Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, and Brett Kavanaugh dissented.

The blocked tariffs included 25% on most Canadian and Mexican imports, 10% on most Chinese imports, and at least 10% on nearly all trading partners.
