The term originated from the bitcointalk.org community, one of the oldest public forums dedicated to discussions about the Bitcoin ecosystem, blockchain technology, and cryptocurrencies, which is popular among developers, investors, and tech enthusiasts.
Hodlers are individuals who hold onto their cryptocurrency for the long term, purchasing and retaining it regardless of price fluctuations.
They have faith in and are assured of the long-term potential of their chosen cryptocurrency, whether it be bitcoin (BTC) or another altcoin.
While they may not fully grasp the technical aspects of a cryptocurrency, they at least trust in the long-term worth of their investment.
On the other hand, "never-sellers" never part with their assets, no matter the market volatility or any decline in the value of their cryptocurrency holdings.
Some participants in the crypto market view hodlers as irrational, missing out on profits by not selling at market peaks or all-time highs.
